Avocado
Avocados are dark green and have a smooth and shiny skin texture. The flavor is rich and nutty. Avocados do not soften on the tree but must reach full maturity before being picked to develop full flavor.
Boniato
J&C's specialty, Boniatos are a type of sweet potato, commonly referred to as Cuban Sweet Potato, though they are tropic in origin and look more like a yam.
Chayote
Chayote can be described as a mild-flavored squash that looks like a wrinkled, pale green pear. Now a very popular product, the chayote can be described as having a medley of flavors such as turnip, cucumber and zucchini.
Coconut
The most common variety of coconut in markets is the dry coconut, which is characterized by a hard brown shell with a stringy, hairy appearance that surrounds the flesh, which can be soft or hard, colored white and sweet.
Guava
Guavas vary in size from approximately 1 to 5 inches in diameter. Their exterior skin is green in color and rather dense. Their pulp or meat varies in color from white to a pinkish/reddish hue
Mamey
This delectable tropical fruit is often a difficult commodity to find in distribution. The meat/pulp is a light pink to a deep salmon color with orangeish hues at optimal ripeness.
Mango
Mangos are a deliciously, sweet fruit that are quite common in the tropics. Unripe mangos have a certain exterior firmness and a fairly consistent green skin color.
Pineapple
Pineapples are juicy, mildly acidicw, and very versatile. They can be squeezed for juice, sliced on cakes, skewered and grilled, or eaten raw without adornment.
Sugarcane
Sugarcane is usually cut and bundled in chutes, which are bunches of batons wrapped together. Each baton, cut in the field from a plant, is a long cylindrical shape, green in color, and with an approximate 1" - 2" diameter.
Yuca
Yuca, or Cassava, is a very starchy root very similar in size and exterior texture to the malanga (see malanga) and the edos (see edos). The flesh of the yuca, within the outer bark skin, is a white-linen color, and has a dense texture.
