A Taste of Exotic


While this hairy red fruit looks like something out of a fairytale, rambutans are a common (and delicious) snack native to the Malay-Indonesian region and other regions of tropical Southeast Asia. It is closely related to several other edible tropical fruits, including the lychee, longan, and mamoncillo (Spanish lime). The fruit flesh is translucent, whitish or pale pink, with a sweet, mildly acidic flavor reminiscent of grapes.

  1. Using a sharp knife, cut a slit in the skin and peel off.
  2. Remove grape-like flesh. Caution: Contains pit.
  3. Enjoy fresh!

Store rambutan in a plastic bag inside refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
