Compliance and Food Safety Clerk

J&C Tropicals, a well-established and growing national tropical produce distributor is looking for a Food Safety & Compliance Clerk. This individual provides daily operational and hands-on support to the Food Safety & Compliance Department, both in the warehouse and administrative settings, through log competition, management, documentation support, coordination, and follow-up activities to ensure food safety, sanitation, and social compliance requirements are consistently met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES include the following: (Others duties may be assigned)

  • Track, complete, and follow up on food safety, sanitation, and compliance logs and records.
  • Support food safety, sanitation, and social compliance programs, including audit readiness and hands-on operational support as needed.
  • Conduct routine warehouse walkthroughs to support employees, facility, and program compliance.
  • Support monitoring and verification activities related to food safety, sanitation effectiveness, and environmental programs.
  • Assist with food safety verification activities, including support for testing programs and related documentation.
  • Monitor facility-related food safety and compliance programs through review of service reports, monitoring logs, and internal checks.
  • Request, collect, and maintain required compliance documentation from internal teams and service providers.
  • Assist with coordination and tracking of employee training activities and records.
  • Proactively follow up with departments to ensure timely completion of logs, corrective actions, and audit-related tasks

EDUCATION, LINCENSES, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required, Associate’s degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Experience:

  •  1–2 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, compliance, or administrative support preferred
  • Basic knowledge of HACCP, FSMA, GMPs, and produce safety standards (a plus).

Any equivalent combination or experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Must possess excellent verbal communication skills, good writing abilities, including correct grammar, sentence structure and spelling.
  • Computer skills, i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.  – Ability to utilize or learn software or technical applications and systems at an intermediate level.
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail.
  • Energetic and excited about our core values, mission and vision
  • Ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage confidential and regulatory documents accurately.

Language Skills

  • Fluent in both English and Spanish is a plus (read/write/translate).

  • Frequently walk and sit.
  • Specific vision requirements required by the job include constantly looking at a monitor and occasionally exercising color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be physically able to safely ascend to heights, be able to bend, crawl and move safely and freely around machinery and building without assistance.
  • Must have eyesight or corrected eyesight to safely work around and inspect equipment, identify insect pests and to prepare inspection notes and reports without assistance.
